Nachdem die Fahrer jeweils in diversen Trainingslagern waren, fand Anfangs Monat wieder das erste Rennen der zweiten Rennsaisonhälfte statt. 

Im österreichischen Zanzenberg starteten direkt um 12:30 Uhr die Damen mit Nina Benz, Ramona Forchini, Annika Liehner & Jacqueline Schneebeli in das Rennen. Besonders Ramona und Nina gelang der Start und sie konnten sich rasch weit vorne platzieren. Auf der teilweise matschigen und somit technisch anspruchsvollen Strecke konnten sich jedoch auch die anderen beiden Damen gut halten, was uns zu folgenden Rangierungen brachte: 7. Rang für Ramona Forchini (Elite Damen), 8. Rang für Nina Benz (Elite Damen), 13. Rang für Jacqueline Schneebeli (U23 Fahrerin in der Elite Wertung) und ein DNF für Annika Liehner (U23 Fahrerin in der Elite Wertung).

Auch Simon Vitzthum konnte sein Potenzial zeigen und kämpfte stark. Am Ende reichte es mit dem 18. Rang leider nicht in die Punkteränge – trotzdem sehr hart gekämpft Simon!

Am darauffolgenden Wochenende starteten fünf unserer Fahrer bei extrem heissen und staubigen Verhältnissen an der MTB Europa Meisterschaften im serbischen Novi Sad. In den jeweiligen Farben der Nationalmannschaften fuhren sie erfolgreich auf gute Rangierungen und konnten ihr Potenzial voll ausschöpfen. Begonnen mit den super Platzierungen  der Schweiz und Deutschland im Team Relay, bis über den guten 8. Platz von Jacqueline in der U23 Damen hin zu den Ergebnissen bei den Elite Damen sind wir mächtig stolz auf unsere Fahrer.
Die Hauptprobe auf die Weltmeisterschaft gelang definitiv und wir waren hungrig auf mehr. Wir gratulieren allen Fahrern für diese tolle Leistung! 

Das Wochenende später waren wir wieder auf Schweizer Boden auf dem Rennplatz anzutreffen. Am Proffix Swiss Bike Cup in Basel durften wir mit fünf Fahrern in drei Kategorien an den Start gehen. 

Der Start machte Finn Treudler bei den Junioren. Auf dem schnellen und taktischen Kurs fühlte er sich super stark und konnte sich immer weiter nach vorne arbeiten. Leider wurde ihm anschliessend eine Kurve kurz vor dem Ziel zum Verhängnis und er stürzte. Trotzdem brachte er am Ende den guten 7. Rang ins Ziel und verteidigte somit das Leadertrikot. 

Nur kurz darauf hies es auch für die Frauen kräftig in die Pedale treten. Nach einem gelungenen Start konnten sich Ramona Forchini und Jacqueline weit vorne einreihen. Doch schon bald bildete sich ein Spitzentrio, welche sich rasch vom Feld absetzen konnte. Ramona lies diese Attacke nicht davonziehen und kämpfte sich in starker Einzelleistung an die Spitze heran. Gerade beim Spitzentrio angekommen wurde ihr jedoch ein Sprung zum Verhängnis und sie holte sich einen Platten, welchen sie wieder zurückwarf. Sehr schade und ärgerlich… Trotzdem dem Missgeschick gab sie nicht auf und erreichte den starken 8. Rang, direkt hinter Jacqueline (welche als 2. U23 Fahrerin die Ziellinie überquerte). Annika Liehner durfte als 24. Fahrerin über die Ziellinie rollen. 

Nur kurz darauf startete auch Simon Vitzthum in der Elite Kategorie. Direkt am Anfang des Rennens setzte er sich an die Spitze und war somit über das ganze Rennen hinweg in der Spitzengruppe mit den Welt- & Europameistern anzutreffen. Die Spitzengruppe bestehende aus 13 Fahrern dominierte über das ganze Rennen hinweg und so lief es am Ende auf ein Sprintfinish heraus. Kurz nachdem das Battle um den Sieg vorbei war, bog auch Simon‘s Gruppe auf die Ziellinie ein. Simon konnte sich souverän an der Spitze halten und gewann somit den Sprint seiner Gruppe und erzielte den sehr guten 6. Platz (als drittbester Schweizer). Gratulation!

Und als krönender Abschluss des August stand auch noch das Highlight des MTB Jahres an—die Weltmeisterschaften, diesmal im italienischen Val di Sole. Wieder in den jeweiligen Farben des Landes starteten so fünf unserer Fahrer auf Weltklasseniveau. Schon im Team Relay zeigte Nina mit der deutschen Nationalmannschaft, bei welchem sie den 3. Platz erreichten, und Finn & Jacqueline mit dem 5. Platz für die Schweiz eine sehr starke Leistung. Der Auftakt in die Weltmeisterschaft gelang. 

Bei den Junioren stand Finn mit Nummer 2 an der Startlinie. Trotz eines guten Startes konnte er dem extrem schnellen Renntempo nicht ganz standhalten und musste einige Fahrer ziehen lassen, was leider auch dem Trainingsausfall von ein paar Wochen aufgrund der COVID-Erkrankung zuzuschreiben ist. Trotzdem kämpfte er bis zum Schluss und erreichte den 16. Platz. Toll gekämpft Finn!

Auch bei den U23 Damen war das Rennen nicht langsamer. Schon von Beginn an wurde ein extrem hohes Tempo angeschlagen. Jacqueline meisterte diesen Machtkampf jedoch sehr gut und konnte sich schnell auf dem 12. Platz einreihen, welchen sie anschliessend auch ins Ziel fahren konnte. Gratuliere! 

Nur kurze Zeit später waren dann auch die Elite Damen in der Startbox. Mit Nina Benz, Sophie von Berswordt und Ramona Forchini waren wir mit drei sehr starken Fahrerinnen aus drei Nationen am Start. Alle zeigten ein extrem starkes Rennen und konnten dem Druck der Zuschauer und dem hohen Tempo standhalten. Besonders Nina zeigte ein enorm starkes Rennen und fuhr von Runde zu Runde immer weiter nach vorne.
Am Ende resultierte für sie so der fantastische 11. Platz—was für eine Leistung! Ebenso ein starker 15. Rang für Sophie, ein starkes Comeback nach dem bisher eher harzigen Saisonverlauf. Ramona fehlte das Rennglück leider sehr. Nach sehr gutem Start stürzte Sie und verhedderte auch noch die Strecken Abschrankung im Hinterrad, so schade! Trotzdem ein achtenswerter 28. Schlussrang. Herzliche Gratulation allen für diese Leistungen!!

Mit diesen Ergebnissen freuen wir uns umso mehr auf den kommenden Weltcup in der Lenzerheide und anschliessend in Snowshoe. Wir sind hungrig auf mehr und würden uns freuen, auch dein Gesicht am Streckenrand anzutreffen. Komm auch du vorbei—wir freuen uns auf dich! :)

Rennupdate August 2021 EN

Successful start into the second half of the racing season... 

After the riders were in various training camps, the first race of the second half of the racing season took place again at the beginning of the month. 

In Zanzenberg, Austria, the ladies started directly at 12:30 pm with Nina Benz, Ramona Forchini, Annika Liehner & Jacqueline Schneebeli. Especially Ramona and Nina succeeded in the start and could quickly place themselves far in front. However, on the partly muddy and thus technically challenging course, the other two ladies were also able to hold their speed, which led to the following rankings: 7th place for Ramona Forchini (elite women), 8th place for Nina Benz (elite women), 13th place for Jacqueline Schneebeli (U23 rider in the elite classification) and a DNF for Annika Liehner (U23 rider in the elite classification).

Also Simon Vitzthum could show his potential and fought strong. In the end it was not enough with the 18th place unfortunately for some points - nevertheless very hard fought Simon!

The following weekend, five of our riders competed in extremely hot and dusty conditions at the MTB European Championships in Novi Sad, Serbia. In the respective colors of the national teams, they successfully rode to good rankings and were able to fully exploit their potential. Starting with the great placements of Switzerland and Germany in the team relay, to the good 8th place of Jacqueline in the U23 women to the results in the elite women, we are very proud of our riders. The main rehearsal for the World Championships definitely succeeded and we were hungry for more. Congratulations to all riders for this great performance! 

The weekend later we were back on Swiss ground on the racecourse. At the Proffix Swiss Bike Cup in Basel we were allowed to start with five riders in three categories. 

The start was made by Finn Treudler in the junior category. On the fast and tactical course he felt super strong and could work his way forward more and more. Unfortunately a curve shortly before the finish was his undoing and he crashed. Nevertheless, he finished in a good 7th place and defended the leader's jersey. 

Only a short time later it was also time for the women to pedal hard. After a good start Ramona Forchini and Jacqueline Schneebeli were able to get in front. But soon a top trio formed, which could quickly break away from the field. Ramona did not let this attack go and fought her way to the top in a strong individual performance. Just arrived at the top trio, however, a jump was her undoing and she got a flat tire, which threw her back again. Very sad and annoying... Nevertheless she didn't give up and reached the strong 8th place, directly behind Jacqueline (who crossed the finish line as 2nd U23 rider). Annika Liehner was allowed to roll over the finish line as 24th rider. 

Shortly after Simon Vitzthum started in the elite category. Right at the beginning of the race he took the lead and was in the top group with the World & European Champions for the whole race. The leading group consisting of 13 riders dominated the whole race and in the end it came down to a sprint finish. Shortly after the battle for the win was over, Simon's group also turned onto the finish line. Simon was able to hold on to the lead and won the sprint of his group and achieved the very good 6th place (as the third best Swiss). Congratulations!

 

And as a crowning conclusion of August, the highlight of the MTB year was still to come - the World Championships, this time in Val di Sole, Italy. Again in the respective colors of the country, five of our riders started at world class level. Already in the Team Relay Nina showed a very strong performance with the German national team, where they reached the 3rd place, and Finn & Jacqueline with the 5th place for Switzerland. The start of the World Championship was successful. 

In the Juniors, Finn stood on the starting line with number 2. Despite a good start he couldn't quite keep up with the extremely fast race pace and had to let some riders go, which unfortunately was also due to missing a few weeks of training because of the COVID illness. Nevertheless he fought until the end and reached the 16th place. Great fight Finn!

Also the U23 women's race was not slower. Right from the start an extremely high speed was set. Jacqueline mastered this power struggle very well and was able to quickly take 12th place, which she was then able to finish. Congratulations! 

Only a short time later the elite ladies were in the starting box. With Nina Benz, Sophie von Berswordt and Ramona Forchini we had three very strong riders from three nations at the start. All of them showed an extremely strong race and could withstand the pressure of the spectators and the high speed. Especially Nina showed an enormously strong race and drove from lap to lap more and more forward. In the end, she finished in a fantastic 11th place - what an achievement! It resulted also a good 15th place for Sophie, a strong comeback after a rather rough season so far. Ramona unfortunately lacked the race luck. After a very good start she crashed and also tangled the track barrier in the rear wheel, such a pity! Nevertheless, an well 28th final rank. Congratulations to all for this achievements!

With these results we are looking forward even more to the upcoming World Cup in Lenzerheide and then in Snowshoe. We are hungry for more and would be happy to meet your face at the trackside. You too can come by - we are looking forward to seeing you! :)
